About Us

Steven Hippauf

Steven is a senior Civil Engineering student at The College of New Jersey. As the team leader Steven will be responsible for overseeing all operations of the project with a focus on fundraising, networking, scheduling, as well as assisting in design. Steven had accepted an internship at HDR Inc. but was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Before that he completed an internship at Cowan Associates Inc. working in various departments including site-civil, inspections, and their structural department. After graduation Steven plans to pursue a career in structural or water resource engineering.

Andrew Agresto

Andrew Agresto is a senior Civil Engineering major at The College of New Jersey. He will be the design lead and create a unique bridge model in VisualAnalysis. He will also assist in the design of connections and fabrication. Andrew is interested in both Structural Engineering and Transportation Engineering. He currently holds an internship in Structural Engineering with POWER Engineers and has held an internship in Transportation Engineering with Stantec. He is excited to participate in the 2021 AISC Steel Bridge Competition.

Matthew Chaber

Matthew is a senior Civil Engineering student at The College of New Jersey. As a member of the 2021 TCNJ Steel Bridge Team, Matthew will be tasked with leading the fabrication process and assisting in the design of the connections found between members of the bridge. Formerly interning at Michael Baker International, Penn Steel Fabrication Inc., Matthew also has construction experience, working as an assistant contractor in home renovations. Matthew has a strong work ethic serving as a DJ for multiple production companies on weekends and has very strong communication, as well as, leadership skills while maintaining a personable character. Following graduation, Matthew hopes to pursue a job as a field engineer, in hopes of becoming a project manager later in life.

Hunter Kelly

Hunter is a senior Civil Engineering Student at the The College of New Jersey. Hunter will be in charge of designing the supports and assisting Matthew with fabrication. He was the President of The College of New Jersey's chapter of Chi Epsilon, The Civil Engineering Honor Society, from 2020 to 2021. The past summer he interned with Maser in their Testing Laboratory assisting in concrete pick-ups and testing. He hopes to find a career in Structural Engineering or Transportation Engineering.

Sofia Zapata

Sofia Zapata is a civil engineering student at The College of New Jersey. As a member of the 2021 TCNJ Steel Bridge Team, Sofia is responsible for ensuring that the bridge design and construction methods meet the 2020-2021 regulations set out by AISC. Additionally, she is involved in the outcoming preliminary designs and will assist the design process of the bridge connections. She also serves as the Secretary for the TCNJ chapter of Chi Epsilon, The Civil Engineering Honor Society and is a member of the College Ambassadors Program. After graduation, Sofia hopes to pursue a career in structural engineering

Nabil Al-Omaishi

Dr. Nabil Al-Omaishi was the founding chair of the Civil Engineering Department at The College of New Jersey. He earned his Ph.D in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska in December of 2001. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at TCNJ teaching various structural engineering courses. Dr. Al-Omaishi has been involved with the school's team for many years and understands what needs to be done to qualify for the National Competition. He will help minimize the size of the bridge as well as improve our construction time.

James Maccariella

Dr. James Maccariella is the  Department Chair for Civil Engineering Technology program as well as an Adjunct Professor at The College of New Jersey.At the College of New Jersey he teaches Structural Analysis and Structural Steel Design for the Undergraduate Program. He graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering and Civil Engineering in 1992. He returned to Drexel to obtain a Master's Degree in Civil Engineer in 1996. Dr. Maccariella will be assisting with Fundraising, Industry Connections, and will give a second opinion on the Final Design.
